Beer of Satoshi – Store Policies and Legal Documents
Return and Refund Policy
Right of Withdrawal (14-Day Cooling-Off Period): If you are an EU consumer, you have the right to cancel your purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving any reason. To exercise this right, you must inform us (Beer of Satoshi GmbH) of your decision by a clear statement (e.g. email) within the 14-day period. Once notified, you then have another 14 days to return the product. We will refund the full purchase price and the original standard shipping cost upon timely withdrawal, provided the item is returned in unused, original condition. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method within 14 days after we receive the returned goods (or proof of return shipment). Please note we may deduct value loss if the product was handled beyond what is necessary to check its nature and functioning.
Return Shipping Costs: Unless the return is due to our error or a product defect, you are responsible for the return shipping costs as per EU law. We do not provide free return labels for discretionary returns. If the product is faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described, contact us and we will arrange a replacement or refund at our expense, including any return shipping needed.
Exceptions to the Right of Return: Certain products are not eligible for return under the law once opened or used. In particular, sealed beverages that have been opened cannot be returned for health and safety reasons and due to their perishable nature. Beer bottles that have been opened (i.e. bottle cap seal broken) are non-returnable. This includes situations where the bottle’s under-cap QR code has been revealed – once opened, the product is considered used and the promotional QR code under the cap may have been utilized, so we cannot accept returns on opened bottles. Additionally, if any product has a short expiry date (perishable goods) and is likely to spoil quickly, the 14-day cancellation right may not apply. Customized or personalized items (if we ever offer them) are also exempt from returns unless defective.
How to Initiate a Return: To start a return or withdrawal, please email us at info (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com with your order details and a statement that you wish to cancel/return your purchase. We will provide you with return instructions, including the return address (which is our corporate address in Cologne, Germany, unless otherwise specified). You must send back the goods within 14 days of notifying us of the cancellation. We recommend using a trackable shipping service for your protection. You must take reasonable care of the items while you have them.
Condition of Returned Items: Products should be returned unopened (unless returning due to damage/defect) and in their original packaging with all components. If possible, please include a copy of the invoice or order confirmation. If an item is returned damaged beyond what is necessary to inspect it, or if parts are missing, we reserve the right to deduct an amount from your refund to cover the diminished value.
Processing Refunds: Once we receive and inspect the returned product, we will notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. Approved refunds (for valid withdrawals or defective merchandise) will be processed without undue delay. Refunds are typically completed within 14 days and will be applied to your original payment method. If you paid via credit card or PayPal, the credit will be issued to that account; if you paid via bank transfer or other methods, we will coordinate the refund accordingly. Please note that refund timing may also depend on your payment provider’s processing times.
No Returns on Promotional Rewards: The inclusion of a Bitcoin QR code reward under the cap is a promotional bonus and does not entitle you to any partial refund or exchange if you dislike the reward or if the reward has been claimed. Once the bottle is opened and the QR code revealed, the product is considered opened/used and is non-returnable, as noted above. This promotional feature has no cash value and is intended to be a fun bonus for customers. It does not affect your statutory rights regarding defective products – if a beer product itself is faulty (for example, spoilage or leakage), we will of course address that, but the outcome of the under-cap promotion is not a basis for return or refund.
Your EU Statutory Rights: Our Return and Refund Policy is in line with EU consumer protection laws, and we aim to make the process fair and clear. Nothing in this policy limits your legal rights. You continue to have at least a two-year legal guarantee in the EU for products that are faulty or not as advertised, allowing you to seek a repair, replacement, or refund for defective products. We will honor all obligations under applicable consumer laws. If you have any questions about returns or need assistance, please contact our support team.
Privacy Policy
Introduction: We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how Beer of Satoshi GmbH (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit our Shopify-powered online store or otherwise interact with us. It also explains your rights under the GDPR and other applicable privacy laws. By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
Data Controller: The data controller responsible for your personal data is Beer of Satoshi GmbH, Im Mediapark 5, 50670 Cologne, Germany. For any privacy-related inquiries, you can reach us at info (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com.
Personal Data We Collect: When you place an order or create an account, we collect personal information necessary to process your purchase and deliver your beer. This includes contact details (name, billing and shipping address, email, phone number) and order information (products ordered, quantities). If you make a payment, our payment processors collect payment details (e.g. credit card number or PayPal account) – note that we do not store your full payment card details on our servers for security. We also collect transaction details (amount, date, payment method).
If you contact us for support, we may collect whatever information you choose to provide in your inquiry (such as your query or feedback). We also automatically collect certain data when you use our website: this may include device and browsing information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, and timestamps. We use cookies and similar technologies to enable site functionality (e.g. keeping your cart), and – with your consent – for analytics as explained below.
Legal Bases for Processing: We process personal data as permitted by law. The primary legal basis is contractual necessity – we need to process your data to fulfill our contract with you (e.g. to process orders, payments, and deliveries). We also process data on the basis of our legitimate interests in running our business (for example, to prevent fraud, manage our IT infrastructure, and improve our services). In certain cases, we rely on consent – for instance, for optional cookies/analytics or marketing communications, we will process such data only if you have given consent (you can withdraw consent at any time). We may also process data to comply with legal obligations (such as retaining records for tax/regulatory purposes).
Use of Your Data: We use the collected data to provide and manage our services to you: this includes processing your orders, arranging shipping, handling returns or issues, and providing customer support. Contact information is used to send you order confirmations, shipping updates, and to communicate if any issues arise. We use your payment information to charge for your purchases (via our payment providers). Email addresses may be used to send service-related messages or, if you have opted in, occasional newsletters or promotions (you can unsubscribe at any time). Browsing data and cookies help us remember your cart, understand how our website is used, and personalize your experience (e.g. preferred language or country).
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We will only use and share it as described here and as required to operate the store.
Third-Party Services and Data Sharing: Our store is built on the Shopify platform, which means Shopify acts as a data processor for us. Shopify provides the e-commerce hosting, storefront, and order processing system. Your data is stored on Shopify’s secure servers. Shopify may also automatically collect data about your device and browsing on our site for security and performance (as described in Shopify’s privacy policy). We have a Data Processing Addendum with Shopify to ensure GDPR compliance. By using our site, you acknowledge that your information will be processed by Shopify on our behalf for the purposes of hosting our store and providing their services. (For more details, you can refer to Shopify’s privacy policy and GDPR information.)
We also share personal data with other service providers strictly as needed to run our business. For example:
-
Payment Processors: When you make a payment, your relevant personal data will be shared with the payment provider to authorize and complete the transaction. We use Shopify Payments (for credit/debit card payments), PayPal, and LNbits (for Bitcoin Lightning payments) as payment options. This means we may share your name, billing address, email, phone, and payment amount with these processors to process the payment. Shopify Payments is a service provided by Shopify/Stripe; PayPal is operated by PayPal, Inc.; LNbits is an open-source Lightning Network payment solution we use to facilitate Bitcoin payments. Each of these payment providers will process your data under their own privacy policies as independent data controllers for the payment step. We do not receive or store your full card or bank details; for example, credit card payments are handled securely by Shopify’s payment gateway and PayPal payments are handled on PayPal’s secured servers. We only receive confirmation that payment was completed, along with an anonymized transaction ID. For Lightning Network transactions via LNbits, we generally receive non-personalized transaction confirmations (no personal identifying info apart from what you provide on our site). We ensure that all payment providers we use are PCI-DSS compliant and GDPR-compliant.
-
Shipping and Logistics: We will share necessary details with our shipping partners (such as DHL or other couriers) to deliver your order. This includes your name, delivery address, and contact phone/email (for delivery updates or address verification). For age-restricted products (beer), the courier will perform age verification on delivery (requiring the recipient to show ID proving age 18+). The courier acts as a data processor in this context, using your data only to fulfill the delivery service.
-
Analytics (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics only if you give consent for analytics cookies. Google Analytics helps us understand website traffic and usage. It operates by setting cookies to collect pseudonymous data about your interactions (such as pages visited, time on site, device information, and approximate location). Because Google Analytics involves cookies that track personal data (like online identifiers), **we will ask for your explicit consent before enabling Google Analytics. If you decline analytics cookies, Google Analytics will remain disabled and no analytics cookies will be placed. If you consent, the information generated by the Google Analytics cookies will be transmitted to and stored by Google (which may be in the USA or elsewhere). We have enabled IP anonymization for Google Analytics to truncate your IP address within the EU. Google acts as our data processor for analytics. Please note that Google may process data in the United States, and while they have measures in place, there have been regulatory concerns about EU-US data transfers. We only use Google Analytics with your consent to ensure compliance with GDPR’s consent requirements for tracking cookies. You can opt out or withdraw consent at any time (e.g. via our cookie preference banner or by using browser opt-out tools).
-
Other Third Parties: We do not currently use advertising networks or social media “pixels” on our site. If in the future we integrate such services, we will update our privacy policy and obtain any necessary consents. We might use email service providers (for example, if we send newsletters) – in that case, your email and perhaps name would be shared with that provider solely for sending our communications. All such providers would be GDPR-compliant and bound by data processing agreements. We may also share information with professional advisors (lawyers, accountants) or authorities if legally required (for instance, to comply with tax and accounting rules or a lawful request by law enforcement).
International Data Transfers: We are based in Germany, but some of our service providers are located outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Notably, Shopify is a Canadian company, and our data may be stored in the USA or Canada. PayPal and Google are also US-based companies. When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place as required by GDPR. Shopify’s Data Processing Addendum includes EU Standard Contractual Clauses to cover EU->non-EU data transfers. PayPal and Google similarly use Standard Contractual Clauses or rely on adequacy decisions (Canada is considered to have adequate data protection for commercial organizations). We only transfer data to third countries where we have lawful bases to do so and with protection of your data in mind.
Data Retention: We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including to complete transactions and comply with legal obligations. For example, we typically keep order information for at least 10 years to satisfy German commercial and tax record-keeping requirements. We retain email communications for a period necessary to address your inquiries. If you have created an account, we retain your account data until you delete your account or request deletion. Analytics data (if collected) may be stored in aggregate form for statistical analysis. When we no longer need your data, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
Your Rights Under GDPR: If you are located in the EU/EEA (or other regions with similar laws), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
-
Right of Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
-
Right of Rectification: You can ask us to correct or update any inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
-
Right to Erasure: You can request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”), for example if it’s no longer needed or if you withdraw consent (and no other legal basis applies). We will honor such requests to the extent required by law. (Note: we may need to retain certain information if required for legal obligations.)
-
Right to Restrict Processing: You can ask us to restrict the processing of your data in certain situations (e.g. if you contest the accuracy or lawfulness of processing).
-
Right to Data Portability: You have the right to obtain your personal data in a structured, commonly used format, and have it transmitted to another controller where applicable (for data you provided and which we process by automated means based on consent or contract).
-
Right to Object: You may object to processing of your data based on legitimate interests, and we will consider your objection. You have an absolute right to object to use of your data for direct marketing at any time.
-
Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we process data based on your consent (e.g. analytics or marketing), you have the right to withdraw consent at any time. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You can manage cookie consent through our website’s cookie settings at any time.
To exercise any of your rights, please contact us at privacy (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com or info (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests to ensure we protect your information from unauthorized access. We will respond to requests within one month as required by GDPR (extensions allowed by law will be communicated if needed).
Data Security: We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to secure personal data. This includes encryption of data in transit (our website is served over HTTPS/TLS), secure storage of information on Shopify’s servers, and measures such as firewalls and access controls. Payment information is handled securely by our payment providers using industry-standard security (PCI DSS compliant systems). We regularly update our systems and train staff on data protection. However, no internet transmission or storage can be guaranteed 100% secure, so we encourage you to also take precautions (like keeping your account password confidential).
Cookies and Tracking Technologies: Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Upon your first visit, we will present a cookie consent banner. Strictly necessary cookies (for site functionality like shopping cart, login, etc.) are used without requiring consent, as they are essential. For any non-essential cookies (such as analytics cookies from Google Analytics), we will ask for your opt-in consent. You can accept or refuse these. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Refer to our Cookie Notice (if provided) or the cookie preferences on our site for more details on specific cookies used.
Google Analytics (with Consent): As noted, we only activate Google Analytics if you consent. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (like _ga) to distinguish users and analyze site use. The information (including truncated IP) is sent to Google. We have configured GA4 (Google Analytics 4) to respect privacy: IP anonymization is enabled, and we don’t use more invasive features like Google Signals without consent. The data helps us gauge things like which pages are most visited, how marketing campaigns perform, etc. Google acts as our processor but may also use data for its own purposes as per its terms. You can opt out at any time by adjusting your cookie settings on our site or by using Google’s opt-out tools. By default, if you do not choose “Accept Analytics”, no analytics cookies will be placed.
Shopify and Platform Data: Our store platform (Shopify) may collect certain data about visitors to provide services like Network and security protections, and analytics for us. For example, Shopify might use cookies to determine if a visitor is human (to prevent bots) or to remember your preferences. These are generally covered under necessary cookies or legitimate interests. We inform you here that by using our store, your data will be processed by Shopify in accordance with their privacy policy. Shopify may also use aggregated, de-identified data from all Shopify stores for overall improvement of their services.
LNbits and Lightning Payments: If you choose to pay via Bitcoin Lightning Network using LNbits, the process will typically redirect you or present a Lightning invoice QR code. No additional personal data (like name or address) is transmitted in the Lightning payment itself aside from the necessary transaction reference. LNbits will handle the payment through the Lightning Network. We will receive confirmation of payment and an internal transaction ID to link the payment to your order. LNbits does not collect personal info about you beyond what is needed to process the Lightning transaction (which might include technical data like an IP address or node address during the payment). Using the Lightning payment option implies you understand that it is a more pseudonymous form of payment. Any personal data you entered on our site (like shipping info) remains with us/Shopify; LNbits sees only the payment request and completion. We maintain control of the LNbits instance or service to ensure your data is handled properly.
Email Newsletters and Marketing: If you subscribe to our newsletter or marketing emails (e.g. by ticking a sign-up box or entering your email in a subscribe form), we will use your email address to send you updates about our products, promotions, or events. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any marketing email or by contacting us. We will only send marketing emails if you have opted in (consented). We may use a third-party email service (e.g. MailChimp or a Shopify Email feature) to manage our mailing list; if so, your email address and name may be stored with that service solely for our email communications. They would be under a data processing agreement and not allowed to use your info for anything else.
Children’s Privacy: Our website is not intended for minors under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you are under 18, you are not permitted to use our site or purchase our products (which are alcohol) and should not provide any personal information. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe we might have information about a child under 18 can contact us to ensure it’s removed.
Your Data Protection Rights and Contact: If you have questions or concerns about our privacy practices, or wish to exercise your rights, please contact us at privacy (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com. We will address your request in accordance with applicable laws. If you feel we have not handled your data or requests properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority (for example, the German Bundesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz or your country’s supervisory authority). We would appreciate the chance to resolve your concerns first, so please reach out to us.
Updates to this Policy: We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The latest version will always be posted on our website (with a “last updated” date). We encourage you to review it periodically. If we make significant changes, we may notify you via email or a notice on our site. By continuing to use our services after an update, you accept the revised policy.
Terms of Service
Introduction & Acceptance of Terms: These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern the use of the Beer of Satoshi online store (the “Store”) and the purchase of products from Beer of Satoshi GmbH (“Beer of Satoshi”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By accessing our website or placing an order, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully before using the site or buying products. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you should not use our services. These Terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
Operator Information: The Store is operated by Beer of Satoshi GmbH, a company registered in Germany. Our details are provided in the Imprint/Legal Notice section below. All transactions and communications will be with Beer of Satoshi GmbH (Cologne, Germany).
1. Eligibility – Age Requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase our products. Alcoholic beverages can only be sold and delivered to adults (18+). By placing an order, you declare that you are 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to buy alcoholic drinks. We reserve the right to verify your age upon purchase or delivery. Our delivery partner (e.g. DHL) will perform an ID age check at the time of delivery and will only release the package to a recipient who is 18+ years old. If adequate age proof is not provided, the delivery will be refused and returned to us; we may treat this as a failed delivery due to ineligibility. We also may ask for age verification on our website (for example, you might need to input your birth date or tick a box confirming you are 18+ to enter the site). We do not sell to minors under any circumstances.
By using our site, you also confirm that any account registration information you provide is truthful and accurate. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
2. Offer and Contract Formation
Product Listings: The products and prices listed on our Store do not constitute a legally binding offer – rather, they are an invitation to treat (i.e. an invitation for you to make an order). While we strive for accuracy, minor errors or omissions in product descriptions, availability, or pricing may occur. We reserve the right to correct such errors at any time.
Placing an Order: When you add products to your cart and complete the checkout process, you are submitting a binding offer to purchase those products under these Terms. After you place an order, you will receive an order confirmation email from us. This email confirms that we received your order request. **However, this confirmation does not yet constitute acceptance of your offer; it is an acknowledgement of your order details.
Acceptance / Confirmation: The purchase contract is only concluded when we accept your order. Acceptance occurs either by: (a) an explicit confirmation email stating that we have accepted the order and will be processing it (or that the order has shipped), or (b) by dispatching the goods to you. Once we have accepted your order, we are obliged to deliver the goods, and you are obliged to pay for them. We reserve the right to decline an order prior to acceptance for any lawful reason – for example, if a product is out of stock, if we suspect fraud, or if you are in a country we do not serve. In case we decline your order, we will notify you and promptly refund any payment you have made.
Order Modifications: After placing an order, if you need to make changes (e.g. shipping address correction) or wish to cancel, please contact us immediately. We will try to accommodate changes before the order is shipped, but we cannot guarantee this if the order is already processed. Once an order is shipped, cancellations/changes may not be possible (except through the returns process outlined in our Return Policy above).
Limited Availability: All products are offered subject to availability. We brew our Beer of Satoshi craft beers in batches, and certain editions or merchandise may be limited. In the unlikely event that your ordered item is unavailable or out of stock, we will inform you promptly. We may offer an alternative product or a later delivery if a restock is expected, or we will refund you for the unavailable item.
3. Prices and Payment
Pricing: All prices in our Store are shown in Euros (€) by default. Prices are inclusive of German Value Added Tax (VAT) (and any applicable alcohol excise duties) unless stated otherwise. We adhere to EU pricing transparency rules – the total price including all taxes and mandatory charges will be shown before you finalize an order. What you see at checkout is the final amount you’ll pay for the product (excluding any potential delivery fees which are shown separately). If we offer any price promotions or discounts, those will be clearly indicated and applied at checkout.
Additional Charges: Shipping costs are typically additional and not included in the product price (see our Shipping Policy below for details). Any such charges will be displayed during the checkout process before you confirm your order. We do not add any hidden surcharges. Because we sell to multiple countries, note that the VAT rate applied is based on the destination country’s rules when applicable. For non-EU deliveries (e.g. Switzerland, UK), our prices include any relevant import VAT/duties (Delivered Duty Paid), so you won’t be charged extra on delivery – more on that in Shipping Policy.
Payment Methods: We offer several payment options for your convenience:
-
Credit/Debit Cards: via Shopify Payments (Visa, MasterCard, etc.)
-
PayPal: enabling you to pay from your PayPal balance or linked bank/card.
-
Bitcoin Lightning Network: via LNbits – allowing you to pay with Bitcoin through a Lightning invoice.
-
Other local payment methods may be available through Shopify Payments (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.), subject to availability.
Payment is generally taken at the time of order (except perhaps for certain pre-order cases, which will be indicated). By submitting an order, you authorize us to charge the corresponding payment method for the total amount. All payments must be in the currency displayed (Euro, unless an option to pay in another currency is provided on the site).
Security of Payments: Card payments are processed securely by our payment gateway. We do not personally handle your card data. PayPal transactions occur on PayPal’s secure platform. For Lightning payments, you will be presented with a QR code or payment link to complete the transaction via your Lightning wallet – ensure you send the exact required amount. If a payment is not successfully captured (e.g. credit card rejection, insufficient funds, or a Lightning invoice expiring unpaid), your order may not be accepted or may be automatically canceled.
3-D Secure: For credit card payments, we comply with Strong Customer Authentication requirements. You may be prompted to complete an additional verification step (such as entering a code sent by your bank or using a banking app to authorize) during checkout, especially for larger amounts, as required by EU law. Please follow the instructions to authenticate the payment.
Invoice: We will issue an electronic invoice for your order, which will be emailed to you or included with the shipment. This invoice will include a breakdown of price, VAT, and any shipping fees.
4. Shipping Policy and Delivery
(See the detailed Shipping Policy section below for full information on our delivery terms.) By ordering, you acknowledge and accept our shipping terms. Key points:
-
Delivery Areas: We currently ship to addresses in Germany, all countries in the European Union, and select non-EU countries (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the United Kingdom). We do not ship to other regions at this time. Orders with delivery addresses outside our supported countries will be canceled and refunded. We also cannot deliver to P.O. boxes or Packstations if age verification is required (since an adult signature is needed).
-
Delivery Time: We strive to dispatch in-stock orders within 1-3 business days. Delivery times after dispatch vary by destination. In Germany, typical delivery is 2–3 business days. Within central EU, approximately 3–5 business days. Further EU countries may take 5–7 business days, and CH/LI/UK deliveries might be around 4–7 business days. These timeframes are estimates, not guarantees. During peak seasons or promotions, dispatch might be slightly delayed. We will notify you if we anticipate any unusually long delay. We are not responsible for delays caused by couriers or customs (though DDP should minimize customs delays), but we will assist in tracking any delayed packages.
-
Age-Verified Delivery: As noted, all shipments containing alcohol will require an adult signature and ID check on delivery. The carrier will not deliver to minors or leave packages unattended. Ensure an adult is available at your address to receive the shipment. If a shipment is returned to us due to inability to complete the age-verified delivery, we will contact you to arrange re-delivery (additional shipping fees may apply for repeat delivery attempts) or cancellation.
-
Risk and Title: All purchases are shipped from our warehouse (or fulfillment center). According to law, the risk of loss or damage to the goods passes to you once the goods are delivered to you (or when you pick them up from us or an event). Title (ownership) of the goods passes to you only when we have received full payment for the order.
-
Event Pickups: In addition to shipping, we may offer local pickup at certain events or locations (such as beer festivals, Bitcoin conferences, or taproom events) as a delivery option. If an event pickup option is available for your order, it will be shown at checkout. Event pickup means you can collect your order in person at the designated event by showing your order confirmation and ID (and proof of age). No shipping fees apply to event pickups. If you choose this option, you are responsible for attending the event to retrieve your order; uncollected orders will not be shipped afterward unless arranged (shipping fees may apply in that case). We will communicate with you via email about the pickup details (date, time, location, contact person). Event pickup still requires age verification upon handover.
5. Bottle Cap QR Code Game (Promotional Rewards)
We offer a unique promotional feature: certain beer bottles come with a QR code under the cap that can be scanned to potentially receive a Bitcoin reward (for example, a small amount of Bitcoin or a prize). By participating in this under-cap promotion, you acknowledge the following:
-
Promotional Nature: The under-cap QR code program is a free promotional contest or reward program. It is intended to add fun and value for our customers. It is not gambling or a lottery. You do not pay anything additional to participate – the chance to win a Bitcoin reward is included with the product purchase, which is sold at its normal price (not an inflated price for the chance). There is no separate entry fee. Thus, this promotion is not considered an illegal lottery or gambling because winner selection is by chance but customers pay no extra consideration specifically to enter*.
-
No Purchase Necessary (where required): In jurisdictions where necessary for legality, we will provide a “no purchase necessary” means of entry for the prize promotion. Details of any alternate entry method (e.g. mailing in a request for a code) will be provided in the official promotion rules on our website (if applicable). Our intention is to comply with all laws regarding promotional contests.
-
How it Works: Inside the cap of each promotional bottle, there is a unique QR code. When scanned with a smartphone (or a Lightning wallet app), this QR code may allow you to claim a reward, such as a small amount of Bitcoin (Satoshis) via Lightning Network or other prizes. Instructions will be provided on our site or on the product packaging. Rewards are random; not every code may yield a high-value prize (some might be consolation prizes or entries into a drawing). Full details of the campaign odds and prize structure will be disclosed in the promotion rules.
-
Eligibility for Rewards: Only customers 18+ (which is already a requirement to purchase) can participate. Any attempt by a minor to redeem a reward will be void. The promotions are intended for customers in our sales regions. There may be restrictions for certain countries if required by law.
-
Not Redeemable for Cash: The QR code rewards (e.g. Bitcoin sats) are promotional bonuses and cannot be redeemed for cash from Beer of Satoshi. They are delivered via the Bitcoin Lightning Network. You will need a Lightning-capable wallet to claim Bitcoin prizes. We are not responsible if you do not have the means to claim or use the reward. Any non-Bitcoin prizes (such as discount codes or merchandise) are likewise not exchangeable for cash.
-
Validity and Liability: Each QR code can only be used once. We are not responsible for any codes that are unreadable due to damage when opening the bottle, or for any technical issues preventing redemption (though we will make a good-faith effort to assist if you contact us). We reserve the right to end or modify the promotional campaign at any time (for example, if fraud, abuse, or technical errors impair the integrity of the promotion). Any taxes on rewards (if applicable in your jurisdiction) are your responsibility. Beer of Satoshi’s liability for the promotion is limited in accordance with the liability section of these Terms. We do not guarantee any minimum value outcome from scanning a code – it’s meant as a surprise bonus.
-
Compliance and Fair Play: Users are not allowed to tamper with or resell the QR codes. Codes have no value except through our intended redemption system. Any attempt at fraud or abuse (e.g., using automated bots to submit codes, sharing unused codes publicly, etc.) may result in cancellation of any related order or prize. Our decisions regarding prize awards are final. The promotion is void where prohibited by law.
-
No Effect on Product Warranty: This promotion does not alter the quality or warranty of the beer product itself. If you have issues with the beer (taste, quality, etc.), that is handled via normal customer service, irrespective of the code promotion. The code under the cap is an added feature and not a paid-for component of the product.
By scanning or redeeming a QR code reward, you agree to the specific rules of the promotion (which will be published on our site or materials). While we want you to enjoy the game, please remember to drink responsibly and that the primary product you bought is beer, not a lottery ticket. The reward game is for enjoyment and community engagement.
6. Shipping, Duties and Taxes
When you purchase from us, the product prices include all relevant German taxes (VAT, beer tax). For orders shipped within Germany and the EU, VAT is included in the price displayed. For orders to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Great Britain and other non-EU destinations we serve, our prices are Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) – we handle the import VAT and duties on your behalf. This means the price you pay at checkout is the final price; you should not have to pay any import taxes or customs fees upon delivery in those countries. We take care of customs clearance and associated costs to provide a smooth delivery.
If, in error, you are charged import fees on a DDP shipment, please contact us so we can resolve it (e.g. by reimbursing you or ensuring the carrier bills us instead). Conversely, if you are ordering from a country where we do not offer DDP and we somehow process the order, be aware you would be responsible for any import charges (but as of now, we only ship to places where we cover duties).
All our products include any required alcohol excise taxes in the price. There are no additional excise charges passed to you at checkout.
If we deliver to a hotel, office, or third-party address provided by you, our responsibility ends with a confirmed delivery to that address. Any forwarding from there is your responsibility.
Please review our Shipping Policy below for more detailed information on shipping methods, costs, and procedures, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.
7. Returns and Refunds
Please refer to our Return and Refund Policy above, which is considered part of these Terms. In summary, EU consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal for unused, unopened goods (with certain exceptions like opened bottles for hygiene reasons). If you exercise this right, you must return the goods and you will receive a refund of the product price and standard shipping, but you will bear the return shipping cost (unless the item was defective). The product must be in resaleable condition. We also comply with all legal warranty obligations for defective products (minimum 2-year conformity guarantee in the EU).
By agreeing to these Terms, you acknowledge you have read and understood our Return Policy.
8. Liability and Disclaimer
Product Quality and Safety: We guarantee that our products will materially conform to their descriptions and be safe for consumption under normal use. Beer is a perishable product; it should be stored properly (cool, not in direct sunlight) and consumed before the best-before date. We are not liable for degradation of quality due to improper storage or handling after delivery. Please consume our craft beer responsibly and in moderation. We are not responsible for any adverse effects due to overconsumption or misuse of alcohol.
Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Beer of Satoshi GmbH (including our owners, directors, employees, and agents) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages that result from the use of, or inability to use, our products or website, including but not limited to loss of revenue, profits, or data, or other economic disadvantage, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. We do not seek to exclude or limit liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or for bodily injury or health issues directly caused by our product (if proven), or our fraud. In any event, our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to any purchase shall not exceed the total amount paid by you for that purchase.
No Waiver of Consumer Rights: If you are a consumer, the limitations above do not reduce any mandatory rights you have under consumer protection laws. For instance, in the EU we cannot exclude liability for failing to supply goods that are in conformity with the contract. Any rights you have under law (such as refund or compensation for a defective product) remain in force. However, to the extent allowable, our liability for minor negligence is limited as set forth.
Website Use: We strive to keep our website up and running smoothly, but we do not guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free. From time to time maintenance or technical issues may make the site unavailable. We will not be liable for any inconvenience or loss caused by temporary unavailability of our site. Additionally, while we aim to ensure information on the site is correct, we cannot warrant that all content (text, images, pricing) is entirely accurate or up to date. If you spot an error, please inform us and we will correct it.
External Links: Our website or communications may contain links to third-party websites (for example, links to our social media pages, or references to payment providers or articles). These are provided for convenience. We have no control over and do not endorse or assume responsibility for content on third-party sites. If you follow external links, you do so at your own risk, and should read those sites’ terms and policies.
Acts of God and Force Majeure: We are not responsible for failure to perform or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, strikes, wars, pandemics, embargoes, government orders, or failure of telecommunications/internet. If such events occur, we will make reasonable efforts to mitigate their impact on our customers.
Product Misuse: Our liability will not cover issues arising from misuse of the product. For example, using the beer bottles in any manner not intended (such as attempting to reseal and sell after opening, or any hazardous activities) is outside the scope of normal use. Similarly, any damage you cause by trying to access the under-cap QR code in a destructive manner (like breaking the bottle) is your own responsibility. Please open bottles carefully and enjoy responsibly.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on our website, including our brand name “Beer of Satoshi”, logos, product images, descriptions, and website design, are protected by intellectual property rights. Beer of Satoshi GmbH either owns or has rights to use all the materials on the site. You may not use our intellectual property (such as our logo or product imagery) without our prior written consent, except for sharing on social media in a way that is not derogatory (we love when you share pictures of our beer, but please don’t use our brand in a misleading way). Likewise, the QR code game concept and any associated materials are our intellectual property or licensed to us. Unauthorized commercial use or reproduction of content from our site is prohibited.
10. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
Governing Law: These Terms and any transactions for the purchase of our products are governed by the laws of Germany. However, if you are a consumer residing in another EU country, nothing in this clause deprives you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, as per Article 6 of EU Regulation (EC) 593/2008. In essence, you will still enjoy any consumer rights granted by your local laws that are inalienable, even if German law applies in other respects.
Jurisdiction: We hope to resolve any dispute amicably. In the event of a legal dispute, the courts of Cologne, Germany shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction. This means that if you are an EU consumer, you may also bring proceedings in your home country’s courts. If you are a business customer or otherwise not a “consumer” under relevant law, the exclusive jurisdiction will be in Cologne, Germany.
Online Dispute Resolution: For EU customers, the European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution platform, which you may access and find more information about (see Imprint below for the link). However, please note that while the ODR platform is available for you to submit complaints, we are not obligated or willing to participate in a formal dispute resolution process before a consumer arbitration board. This does not affect your ability to seek legal remedies in court.
11. Miscellaneous
Language: These Terms are provided in English, which shall be the governing language. If we provide translations in other languages (e.g. German), the English version will prevail in case of conflict or ambiguity.
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable by an applicable law or court, that provision will be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid, or if modification is not possible, severed, but the rest of the Terms will continue in effect.
No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Any waiver must be expressly given in writing.
Transfer: You may not assign or transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms to a third party without our written consent. We may transfer our obligations (for example, in a business reorganization or merger) provided that the contract terms remain substantially the same for you.
Contact Information: If you have any questions about these Terms, or need any clarification, please contact us at info (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com or via the contact methods in our Contact page.
By purchasing from Beer of Satoshi or using our site, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms of Service.
Shipping Policy
Delivery Zones: Beer of Satoshi GmbH ships to Germany, all EU countries (EU Zone 1, 2, 3 as defined below), and the following non-EU countries: Switzerland (CH), Liechtenstein (LI), and the United Kingdom (GB). Unfortunately, we do not ship outside Europe at this time. All orders must have a valid street address; we cannot deliver to P.O. boxes or parcel lockers for age-restricted items because adult signature is required.
For clarity, we categorize EU destinations into three zones for shipping rate purposes:
-
Zone 1: Nearby EU countries (examples: Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Austria).
-
Zone 2: Mid-range EU countries (examples: Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia).
-
Zone 3: Further EU countries (examples: Spain, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Estonia, etc.).
(This categorization is based on typical shipping cost groupings; if your country is in the EU and not explicitly mentioned, it will fall into one of these zones. We will display the appropriate zone rate at checkout.)
Shipping Methods: We primarily use DHL (Deutsche Post) for our deliveries, which provides reliable service across Europe. In Germany, we use DHL Paket with the Age Verification service – meaning the courier will check that the recipient is 18+ before handing over the parcel. For international shipments, we use DHL or a partner network (which could be your local postal service or courier) that also requires adult signature where applicable. In some cases, we might use an alternative carrier (e.g. DPD, UPS) if it offers better service for certain destinations or heavy shipments, but the same delivery conditions (age check, similar transit times) will apply.
Processing Time: Orders are typically processed and dispatched within 1-3 business days after payment confirmation. We prepare shipments Monday through Friday (excluding German public holidays). If you order on a weekend or holiday, processing will start on the next business day. During new product launches or peak periods, processing might extend to 3-5 business days, but we’ll do our best to keep you informed of any delay.
Shipping Costs: Shipping costs depend on the destination zone and the total weight of your order (including packaging). Our beer is heavy, so shipping is calculated in weight ranges (we use the total package weight which includes bottles and protective packaging). Below is a general guide to our shipping charges:
-
Germany: We offer tiered flat rates by weight. For example: up to 5 kg is €5.99; up to 10 kg is €7.99; up to 20 kg is €9.99; up to 30 kg (our max per parcel) is €12.99. These rates ensure your order is well-packed and shipped with age verification. If your order exceeds 30 kg, it will be split into multiple parcels, and shipping will be charged per parcel. We currently do not offer free shipping in Germany (the customer bears the shipping costs as noted in our business plan)【3†Notizen】.
-
EU Zone 1: Shipping rates start at around €14.99 for a small box (up to 5 kg). Medium boxes (~10 kg) are around €17.99, and large boxes (~20 kg) around €20.99-€24.99. The maximum per parcel is 30 kg, which might cost around €29.99 for Zone 1. Examples of Zone 1 countries: BE, NL, LU, AT, FR (mainland). (These figures are illustrative; actual costs will be calculated at checkout based on current courier rates.)
-
EU Zone 2: Shipping rates start slightly higher due to distance. A small 5 kg parcel is around €16.99, 10 kg around €21.99, 20 kg around €29.99, up to around €35.00 for 30 kg. Examples: DK, IT, PL, CZ, HU, Slovakia, etc.
-
EU Zone 3: Farthest in the EU. A 5 kg parcel roughly €18.99, 10 kg €24.99, 20 kg €34.99, up to ~€40 for 30 kg. Examples: ES, PT, FI, SE, EE, IE, etc. (Remote areas or islands might incur surcharges – we will inform you during checkout if so, e.g. Canary Islands would be special case not covered by standard EU shipping due to customs.)
-
Switzerland & Liechtenstein: We ship DDP to these countries. Because of customs and higher courier fees, rates are a bit higher than EU. For example, up to 5 kg might be €25 (which includes Swiss import VAT and duties), 10 kg ~€30, 20 kg ~€40. We handle the customs clearance, so you pay this upfront and nothing on delivery. Swiss/Liechtenstein customers benefit from no surprise fees.
-
United Kingdom (Great Britain): We also ship DDP to the UK. Given UK’s import rules, we collect UK VAT at checkout for orders under £135, and for orders above that, we still pre-pay the import VAT and duties. Shipping a box to the UK (e.g. 5-10 kg) might range around €25-€35 depending on weight. Transit might be a couple of days longer due to customs, but DDP ensures a smoother process. We currently deliver to mainland Great Britain; Northern Ireland might be handled separately due to different rules – please inquire if needed.
Packaging: To ensure your beer arrives safely, we use sturdy shipping boxes with dividers or padding, designed for glass bottles. There is a small packaging cost built into the shipping fee, which covers these protective materials. We do not charge a separate packaging fee; it’s essentially included in the shipping rates. Our packaging is generally recyclable. We encourage you to recycle or re-use the packing materials.
Heavy Orders: Each parcel is limited to 30 kg for safety and courier constraints. If you order a very large quantity that weighs over 30 kg in total, your order will be shipped in multiple parcels. The shipping charge will reflect the cost of each parcel. We will group items logically (for example, a 60 kg order may ship as two 30 kg boxes). You will receive tracking numbers for each parcel. There is no extra handling fee for multi-parcel shipments beyond the normal shipping charges.
Tracking: All orders include tracking. Once your order is dispatched, we will email you a shipping confirmation with the tracking number(s). You can use this to monitor the delivery status on the DHL (or other carrier) website. If you do not receive a tracking email, please check your spam folder or log into your account to find the tracking info.
Delivery Instructions: If you have specific delivery instructions (e.g. “ring my doorbell, leave it on porch” etc.), you may leave a comment with your order. However, for alcohol deliveries we cannot authorize parcels to be left unattended due to the age check requirement. The courier must hand it to a person 18 or older. If you are not home, DHL typically will attempt a second delivery or leave a notice for pickup at a local post office/parcel shop, where you will also have to show ID to collect. We recommend providing a delivery address where someone 18+ will be available (for example, a workplace, or a neighbor with permission).
Failed Delivery and Returns: If a package is returned to us because the courier was unable to complete delivery (e.g. after multiple attempts or if unclaimed from a pickup point) or due to incorrect address provided, we will contact you. We can resend the package upon your request, but you will be responsible for the additional shipping cost (unless it was our error). If you prefer a refund in that case, we will refund the product cost minus the original shipping fee (since that service was expended) once the parcel is returned to us.
International Considerations: For DDP countries (CH, LI, GB), we handle customs. For EU countries, since we ship from Germany (within EU), no customs process is needed – it’s a domestic EU shipment. If you are in a non-EU part of Europe we don’t ship to (e.g. Norway or Iceland), the website should not allow the order. If somehow an order sneaks through from a country we can’t serve, we will have to cancel and refund it.
All cross-border shipments will have the appropriate HS codes, invoices, and customs declarations attached so that customs (if any) is smooth. We ensure that duties and VAT are paid by us (the seller) for the DDP shipments, so you have a hassle-free experience.
Shipping Insurance: Our shipments are insured as per the carrier’s standard policies (usually up to a certain value). If your package arrives with obvious damage, please document it with the delivery person if possible and contact us immediately. We will work to resolve any issues (replacement or refund for broken bottles). We pack very carefully, but in rare cases of breakage, we will take care of it. Do not consume any beverage from a bottle that arrived damaged or leaked.
Estimated Delivery Times: (as mentioned earlier, roughly)
-
Germany: 1-3 business days after dispatch.
-
Benelux, France, Denmark: 2-5 business days.
-
Most other EU (Central/Eastern/Southern): 3-7 business days.
-
Scandinavia, Baltics, Ireland, Portugal: 4-8 business days.
-
Switzerland, Liechtenstein: 3-6 business days.
-
United Kingdom: 4-7 business days.
These are estimates, not guarantees. Rural or remote areas could take a bit longer. We are not liable for delays due to customs (for CH/UK, although DDP should minimize it) or due to events beyond our control (weather, strikes, etc.), but we will help keep you informed.
Event/Local Pick-up: If we offer a local pickup or event pickup option at checkout and you choose it, then no shipping charge applies. The responsibility is on you to pick up the order at the arranged time/place. Please bring an ID and your order confirmation. Once handed off, it’s considered delivered. If you fail to pick up, we’ll reach out to arrange an alternative (which might include shipping at cost).
Special Requests: If you have any special shipping needs (for example, urgent delivery needs, or a preferred courier), please contact us before or immediately after placing the order. We’ll do our best to accommodate, though additional costs might apply for special services (e.g. express shipping).
Customer Responsibility: Please ensure the shipping information you provide is complete and accurate (include door numbers, correct postal codes, etc.). We are not responsible for orders delivered incorrectly due to inaccurate addresses provided by the customer. Also, once delivered (confirmed by tracking), the products become your responsibility. If you suspect theft or non-delivery even though tracking shows delivered, let us know – we will try to assist (filing a claim, etc.), but in principle the risk passes on delivery.
By placing an order, you agree to this Shipping Policy. We aim to deliver a great experience – if you have any questions or issues with shipping, please contact us at info (at) beerofsatoshi (dot) com, and we’ll be happy to help.
